Jose Hernandez: Hi everyone, my name is Jose from ChipMonk Baking and today I have Chef Kaiser with me. Chef, would you like to introduce yourself and your restaurant?
Chef Kaiser Lashkari: Yes, I’m Kaiser Lashkari. Owner of Himalaya Restaurant in Houston. My wife and I we run this Indo-Pakistani restaurant and have been since 2004. We’ve had the honor and privilege of having the late Anthony Bourdain come in and dine with us, and a couple of years ago Mr. Andrew Zimmerman came in and dined. We’ve been very very blessed to have such shining stars of the food business come and dine at our place.
Jose Hernandez: The food is fantastic! Today we’re going to talk about something that’s really important to me personally because I have type 2 diabetes but also to ChipMonk Baking. Chef, would you mind telling us a little bit about your background with diabetes?
Chef Kaiser Lashkari: Yes, my mother had diabetes. She passed away because of diabetes. Her mother had diabetes. She passed away from diabetes. Her brother had diabetes. Diabetes is rampant in our family.
I have been pre-diabetic for a long time, so I was looking for something that would satisfy my sweet tooth, and so far to be honest ChipMonk’s cookie has been the only one that has matched my standards. It’s very high quality. I think it should be the first choice of diabetics.
99% of the time if you’re eating anything which is sugar free you know something is lacking, something is missing in the sweetness, it tastes funny. But they have come up with such a great product. The sweetness is as though it’s made with real cane sugar, and the texture is so good I think it should be the number one choice of every diabetic in America and for people who are trying to cut carbs, trying to lose weight, and yet have an obsession with sweetness like I do.
That would be the first choice. I have always had a request for them to change their name from “ChipMonk” to “ChampMonk” because I think they are the champions of this cookie.
Jose Hernandez: Do you have any favorites? What’s your favorite product?
Chef Kaiser Lashkari: The banana chocolate chip is my favorite. I could eat about a dozen after lunch and a dozen before lunch.
Jose Hernandez: Well I really appreciate it Chef. We really appreciate you advocating for us and for being such a champion of the diabetes cause and the low sugar movement.
Chef Kaiser Lashkari: Yes, thank you. I wouldn’t do this for all the money in the world if I didn’t believe in a product, but I believe it from my heart. It’s so good, and both you and your partner have come up with something so fantastic that I just have to say it’s the best cookie ever…absolute best in its class, and I hope to see it on shelf at every store in America.
