What Snacks Can You Eat on a Ketogenic Diet?

Snacks you can eat on a low carb keto diet

The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, low carbohydrate diet that allows us to enter ketosis, a state in which the body burns fat rather than carbohydrates. There are many benefits to a ketogenic diet, including weight loss support, clearer skin, and reduced risk of disease. In fact, ChipMonk’s founder Jose Hernandez was able to successfully manage his type-II diabetes with a ketogenic diet. If you are considering a keto diet as well, you might be disappointed to learn that there are quite a few foods you should avoid.

What Can’t You Eat On A Keto Diet?

Unfortunately, a lot of the most decadent and delicious foods are not compatible with keto and should be avoided. In general, if it is high carb, sugary, or starchy, it probably isn’t keto. Here is a list of foods to avoid on your ketogenic diet:

Sugary Foods to Avoid on Keto

  • Sodas
  • Candies
  • Traditional Cookies & Desserts
  • Sweetened Yogurts
  • Ice Cream
  • Breakfast Cereals
  • Most fruits (more on this later)
  • Honey, maple syrup, agave and all the other hidden names for sugar

Starchy Foods to Avoid on Keto

  • Breads
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Potatoes
  • Chips
  • Legumes
  • Oatmeal

Well that’s a bummer! A lot of my favorite foods are on that list, but I’ve got good news: You are starting your keto journey at just the right time, because there are now tons of substitutions, recipes, and packaged goods that are keto-friendly. So let’s find out what you can eat on a keto diet:
